A journalist on the path to discover how history and culture intertwine to explain the now...

Hi, I’m Leah. I am a sophomore at Western Kentucky University studying journalism, Spanish and broadcasting. If I were to choose one word to describe myself, I’d say “writer” without so much as a breath. I am a student journalist, traditional diarist, blogger and aspiring novelist. The path to achieving ambitious goals first consists of conquering smaller ones. I dream of one day becoming a foreign correspondent, but for now, I report and work as one of the web co-editors for my university’s student-lifestyle magazine, the Talisman. I am most interested in digital and documentary journalism and believe journalism should be accurate, impartial and rooted in objective verity.

My journalistic passion lies in exploring how history and culture intertwine to explain the events of today’s world. I believe everyone has a story to tell, and my job as a reporter is to amplify the voices of those who face danger in using their own. My clips include articles detailing a student-led protest against sexual assault in Greek life, COVID-19’s effects on eating disorder recovery, Women of Color discussing their journeys to success in the podcast industry and the experiences of Black Republicans during the 2020 presidential election. Leah Writes Things is my platform for sharing my journalistic work, creative writing, journal entries and essays documenting my perception of life and what it means to be human. I am an ardent believer in Christ and the idea that everything happens for a reason. Perhaps there’s a reason our paths are crossing now. If you stay a while, maybe you’ll find it.
